Mapledurham House and Watermill are open to the public at weekends during the summer and midweek for private party visits. Many of our visitors choose to arrive by boat from nearby Caversham. All you need to do is to ring The Estate Office and we will happily arrange the afternoon for you—from the booking of the boat to the guided tours to the cream teas. Boats usually leave Caversham at 2 p.m. although there is also a scheduled boat trip leaving at 11 a.m. If you choose to come on the earlier boat then we would be delighted to offer our picnic facilities to you or you could use the local pub for lunch. You will be met from the boat by our miller or her assistant (or coach if you choose not to arrive by boat) who gives you a guided tour of the watermill. You will see and hear how the machinery works to produce the excellent flour which is normally available in our gift shop. Then the house guides will collect you and take you on a guided tour of the Elizabethan mansion, still the home of the descendants of the Blount family and in the same family for over 500 years. Our guides are knowledgeable and very approachable—please do feel free to ask any questions you might have. After the tours, most of our guests choose to have either a cream tea or afternoon tea with us in the Old Manor tea rooms. Once you have finished your tea, you are very welcome to browse the gift shop for a memento of your day to take home or stroll in the grounds.
